A monogram turns initials into a small piece of personal heraldry — on stationery, a wax seal, a tote or a towel. It looks effortless, but there's a quiet etiquette to the letter order that's worth knowing before you commit it to something permanent.
For an individual, the traditional three-letter monogram places the surname initial in the centre, larger, flanked by the first name on the left and the middle name on the right. So Ayesha Rahman Khan becomes AKR — first, (large) last, middle.
For a simpler look, a two-letter monogram of first and last name initials, in normal order, never goes out of style.
For couples sharing a surname, the shared last initial sits large in the centre, with the two first-name initials on either side. Traditionally the partner names flank the shared surname; many modern couples simply place them in the order that looks and sounds best to them.
A monogram is personal shorthand. Get the order right once and you can carry the same mark across everything you own.
Tell us the names and the item, and we'll lay out the monogram correctly and in a style that suits you — then carry it across your whole set so everything matches.
